Sometimes...

... Sometimes when you're working on (digital) art, you're changing your colors around, your switching up your positioning, and then suddenly--

Everything.
Looks.
Good.

Or at least good enough to no longer make you angry.

This happened about 10 seconds ago.

So I'm just working on my Typography project...

la la la
work work work

...And we can only use greyscale.
And I have some text, different text, and more text. And some decorations.

And they did not like being contrast-y. They were all like, "Mehh you're running out of shades, I'm going to go be hard to read."

This isn't completely final, but I probably won't change anything except nit-picky stuff. It's too late to try to think of a more dramatic layout. So... there it is. Hopefully the terms are accurate.

So that and a bunch of other stuff associated with it is due tomorrow. Ya.

In Sculpture, I don't have a picture, but we are sculpting a live model out of clay. They're quite large and it's all very nuts. Like, it's our first project for the class, and we're sculpting a whole woman.

In Metals, we are forging bracelets! It's super fun. We did some practice rods, to get used to how the metal will move with each hammer strike, but the next step is to bend the rod into a circle, solder the seam together, and then hammer the design into it while it's all round. Blargh. We'll see if I can even get it soldered.

Also there's a spider in my garage:

Maybe one day you'll be able to click on images to see them a bit larger. I don't know what happened to that.

Sewing Machines are My Anti-Drug

80 hours until Dragon*Con!

It's really scary to look at it that way.

It's a good thing, then, that I have THIS:

To do list:
  • Add seam details
  • Add tunic buttons and details
  • Belt loops to keep belt from sliding around
  • Laces on collar
  • Tie up and cut off loose thread :(
  • Make gloves
  • Paint shoulder armor
  • Sculpt and paint daggers
  • Create holsters for daggers
That seems like a lot. And it kind of is. Those are not in order of importance.

It's actually closer to:
  • gloves
  • armor
  • daggers and holsters
  • belt loops
  • the rest

It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it'll do.

22 Days Left!

[I would like to dedicate this post to Degrassi Junior High, which has been keeping me company throughout my latest costuming sessions.]

Alright peeps! 3 weeks to go!
...And I am so tired of costuming. It's fun and all, but it never ends!

Luckily, I have gotten a heck of a lot done:

I haven't painted them yet, but I have sculpted out my shoulder armor.

I used the same materials as with Kate's hammer, which works pretty well for pretty much anything. Next is sanding and painting, and somehow attaching it to my body.

Sundae helped, but had to take frequent breaks.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, (and I know it's what you've been waiting for anyway)...

...all of this mess:
[What I've done]

[What I have left to do]

Actually, the whole thing is going surprisingly well.

So close!

I got my silver buttons (that are actually scrapbooking brads) in today which add a lot of the details in already. I also ordered my boots and my elf ears, so I'm feeling pretty good.

At least some of us are working.

...Working / murdering pins!
Massacre!

Anyway, I still need to do something about my gloves. I can either make my own (something I've never done before, with really no time left for that kinda mess) or try to buy some (which I am having a whole lot of time doing) and alter them a little.

Blargh. It's really stressing me out. I'll probably try to make some until I can find real ones. I'll have to dig up some of our gloves for research!

Gosh I'm so excited. I feel like a hippie in a drum circle.
